It is an-overused term, currently, and few times confused with reuse. A process or treatment is the difference; recycle requires a (series of) treatment or process, while reuse do not. Although when I think about it, at the end of the day, when you recycle a material, you will actually reuse it, even if not in the same form of what it used to be.

Having said that, it is not so easy as individuals to perform waste recycling. It requires machines, substances and other materials and equipments, although some are individually conduct-able. The latter includes paper recycling into recycled paper, or kitchen waste into compost.

The least we can do is: participation. Waste separation is the key to improve the quality of recycle. Waste separation maintain the quality of the material, making it unnecessary  to clean material as the preparation  for it to undergo recycling process. Need an example? Waste separation makes plastic bags or plastic bottles clean from oils, or other substances, which will make it ready to undergo the recycling process without having to be cleaned first.

Participation also includes encouraging your local waste service provider to collect waste separately: the recyclable (this type itself might need separation) and reusable materials.  Participation also means knowing the recyclable packaging material and put your preference on it so that it could be recycled once you do not need it. Let’s participate then!
